Some things you might want to do Saturday Morning before the workshops start
Impression 5 Hands on Museum
Take a Stroll on the Lansing Rivertrail- Fall color could be spectacular in Mid Oct
State Capitol Grounds- unfortunately tours of the inside are not available on weekends. Tours are available Monday through Friday, so if you arrive in Lansing before 3pm on Friday, this would be worth checking out.
Elderly Instruments- opens at 10am on Sat. If you play a stringed istrument, this place is the center of the Universe. Also nice selection of CDs of folk music- even some contra dance music!
Elderly is on the edge of a fun Lansing neighborhood called "Old Town"- interesting to stroll around for a couple hours on Saturday morning. About a Mile North of CUMC. Nice walk on a brisk fall day.
Are you a crafter? for knitters and crocheters ( not to mention spinners) visit Rae's Yarn Boutique (opens at 11am on Sat.). Rae is a dancer and her store is about a mile and half east of CUMC on Michigan Avenue. (Note- RIP Threadbear Fiber Arts closed in late September of 2010 - :-( )
If you are a quilter, or enjoy pretty cotton fabric, you'll enjoy a visit to Country Stitches, Lake Lansing Rd and 127. Thousands of bolts of fabric, and other quilting supplies. The store opens at 9:30am on Sat (closed Sundays).
If you are into Stained Glass, check out Delphi on Jolly Road. Huge glass showroom. Tools for copper foil, lead came, mosiacs, hot glass- like beads, fusing and slumping.
If you enjoy Big Ten Universities on Football game Saturdays, Michigan State University is a few miles East of downtown Lansing. The MSU Spartans host the Wolverines from the University of Michigan time is still TBA. It can be a wild time to be on campus and parking will be a challenge, but it's a great time to people watch and enjoy the beauty of MSU's campus. The CATA bus ( the #1 line) would be a good way to go.
