Lansing Dances Cancelled Rest of Season
Due to Coronavirus / COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the boards of both the Looking Glass Music & Arts Association and the Ten Pound Fiddle have made the difficult decision to cancel all dances the rest of this season. The boards of each group will discuss next steps for planning future dances, when it is again safe to resume.

Lansing's two contra dance organizations have been closely monitoring the Ingham County Health Department, and the CDC. On March 12, the Country Dance and Song Society (CDSS) updated their recommendations for protecting ourselves and our dance communities (see below), so that we may dance together again in the not-too-distant future.

NEW RECOMMENDATIONS: In line with CDSS’s own plans, we recommend that in-person participatory art events originally scheduled through the end of April be suspended or cancelled. According to the WHO, “This is a controllable pandemic.” If we work together as a nation to slow the transmission, our health system will be able to manage the virus and provide adequate care for those who are ill.

Our dance, song, and music traditions will not go away if we need to hit the pause button for a while. They’ve made it through population migrations, world wars, and the rise of digital entertainment. Dancing and singing together will continue with gusto after the initial virus has run its course. Be kind and understanding with the dancers, singers, musicians, callers, and organizers around you.

Check this website for updates, and if you haven't signed up for the Dancing in Lansing email list, please do so now by clicking here and following the instructions.

Please keep yourself and your loved ones healthy! We'll see you soon on the dance floor, once we're safely through this difficult time.
